(a) Green Procurement
|
|
|
In response to the global
trend of environmental awareness and social
responsibility, we are actively investing in
green purchases. Other than being in-line with
current government environmental standards of
product purchasing, we have always taken
measures to improve our equipment purchase, so
that we can consume less electricity, increase
the efficiency of operations, save water, and
extend the life of our equipment. Therefore, we
define green purchases as “The purchase of
products, technologies, and services can save
energy as well as reduce carbon emission, waste
productions, and environmental impacts”.
Currently our green purchasing principles
include:
(1) Green products which have been certified by
the government, including environmental marks
and energy/water saving products.
(2) Following international governmental
product laws and guidelines (such as the EU’s
RoHS, WEEE, etc.), or obtaining environmental
certificates for products through inspection
processes. |

(b) Environmental Protection With-in Our Factories
|
|
|
Nan Ya PCB has been
insistent upon adopting the best manufacturing
techniques to enable our materials to be used in
the highest efficiency and keep waste disposals
at a minimum scale, since we planned our
manufacturing process. In this way we can
prevent our resources from turning into wastes
unnecessarily and strive for keeping the balance
of environmental protection. With the same
principles, we always make sure our factories to
keep pace with the latest technologies, so that
Nan Ya PCB can make ongoing improvements in the
use of resources, reduction of waste materials,
and promotion of recycling and reusing
techniques. To learn more about
greenhouse gas emissions, water resource
management and waste management. We also set up strict regulations on
pollution control and review the performance
annually to sustain the function of
environmental protection in our factories. |

(1) Air Pollution
Control
The main source of air pollutants
generated in Nan Ya PCB’s plants came from the use of
neutral, acidic, alkaline, and organic chemical
compounds with volatility during production processes.
Thus, in addition to the separation of those chemical
compounds at the source of exhaust gas pipes, specific
equipment such as scrubbers, bag filters, and activated
carbon towers has been installed to handle each type of
waste gas. To enhance the effectiveness of VOC processes
and eliminate odors around the plants, Nan Ya PCB
purchased a UV-C reactor treatment system and installed
a pH monitoring system on the scrubber to increase the
efficiency of exhaust gas reduction. The Company also
ensures the equipments to be maintained regularly so
that they can effectively function to control pollution.
If new equipment is installed or an existing one is
upgraded, Nan Ya PCB has companies, which certified by
Environmental Protection Administration, to examine air
pollutants in their stacks to make sure air pollution
control is effective. Historical results show Nan Ya
PCB’s air pollutant emissions are much lower than
national emission standards.
(2) Waste Water
Processing
Nan Ya PCB has taken the
characteristics of wastewater and the stability and
accessibility of wastewater treatments into account when
designing its wastewater treatment procedures and
facilities. Also, in place is a comprehensive plan of
adequate pipes allocation to classify the source of
wastewater to strengthen wastewater control, recycling,
and reuse. Wastewater is stringently and immediately
categorized when it is produced by equipments and
machineries. The water is collected through distribution
channels to specific water treatment facilities. The
Company tests effluents daily to ensure that the quality
of treated water is far lower than national standards.
Each one of the Company’s manufacturing plants and the
surrounding areas are located in the B type industrial
land, which was planned by the government and
exclusively for industrial use, and none of plants’
locations is in ecological reserves. Nan Ya PCB is going
to continue to lower waste water emissions and boost the
effect of wastewater processing through the improvements
in manufacturing processes and equipment to mitigate its
impact on the environment.
(3) Water Recycling
Production activities consumed the
most water in Nan Ya PCB. The main water sources include
tap water, recycled water, purchased industrial water
etc. Since Nan Ya PCB does not use groundwater, it has
strived to lower water consumption by reducing water
used during production and recycling the water used in
cleaning during production process. The Company has also
invested heavily in an effluent recycling and treatment
system, and has reduced wastewater in all of its plants;
neutral or alkaline recycled water is reused as a source
for water consumption for pollution control. Purified
recycled water is directly reused by plants and stored
at pure water storage reservoirs to reduce water
recharge. Water-saving devices have also been installed
on the faucets in offices to reduce office water
consumption and cultivate water-saving culture.
(4) Reduction of
Waste Materials
Nan Ya PCB has established
multiple waste collection and recycling
points within its plants to reduce
wastes and make the best use of its
resources and materials. The Company
also continuously improves its
production processes and operations.
First, we reduce the waste spawned at
beginning of the production. Then, we
consider reuse, and eventually wastes
are categorized and reused to make
resources recyclable.
The results of waste reduction have met the expectation. In the future,
we will continue to implement various
waste reduction and resource recycling
measures to reduce the amount of waste.
All of industrial wastes from the
Company are contracted to qualified
domestic waste management companies and
handled by qualified waste treatment
plants.
(5)
Greenhouse Gas
Emissions Reduction
Global warming and changes in
climate have become a key issue for
sustainable development. With Increases
in greenhouse gases and temperature
around the world, the change in global
climate has become abnormal and
triggered unpredictable impacts on the
environment. Nan Ya PCB has recognized
the importance of these issues and has
conducted comprehensive examinations and
evaluation of its greenhouse gas
emissions since 2005 in accordance with
the principles of ISO 14064-1 to reduce
its greenhouse gas emissions and achieve
sustainable development. As an
electronics ODM service provider, over
98% of Nan Ya PCB’s greenhouse gas
emissions were generated by the indirect
discharge of purchased electricity.
Thus, reducing electricity consumption
is the most effective way to cut
greenhouse gas emissions. The Company
also adopted the Plan-Do-Check-Act
management model to improve its
facilities, reduce its emissions
continuously, and increase
competitiveness.
Through ongoing energy saving actions, our unit greenhouse gas emission
(ton CO2e/NT$M) has achieved the target.
In the future, we will continue to
strive for promoting energy-saving
improvement measures to strengthen
energy efficiency, in order to reduce
greenhouse gas emission.
(6) Nan Ya PCB Sustainable
Achievement:
We have strived to lower energy
cost and increase energy usage efficiency and set
environmental management targets annually. Through a
proposing and compensating system, we promoted every
department to review and improve its own energy usage
efficiency. Also we have an internal energy management
sector to handle such tasks, and it convenes the energy
management conference every month to implement the
Company’s policies and perform the internal auditing for
energy saving projects.

|
|
(7) The Sustainability against Climate Change:
Nan Ya PCB participated in the assessment of
enterprises responding to the climate
change, which held by the Carbon Disclosure
Project, and obtained A- rating. That is the
first Taiwanese Company accomplished such
achievement. |

such as earthquake, fires, chemical spills and leaks,
and natural disasters. We have trained our employees to
be familiar with emergency responses protocol such as
timely report, immediate responses and relief of
disasters, and first aid. Nan Ya PCB views contractors
as one of its own employees; we organize regular
pre-construction trainings for them and hold the Daily
Toolbox Meetings to detect construction crews’
protection equipment and physical and mental status.
Also, we notify them about the hazards specific to
characteristics of each construction, operation
protocols, and harms in the construction environment.
The Construction and Maintenance Departments coordinate
and communicate with contractors to achieve the goal of
no construction disaster and occupational injury.
In addition to being invited as TOSHMS Promotion
Committee, Nan Ya PCB cooperated with the Council for
the Promotion in holding activities and promoted safety
and health management. We actively promoted and paid
significant efforts in the cooperation project of the
industrial safety management with “Northern Region
Inspection Office of the Council of Labor Affairs, the
Executive Yuan”, in order to establish a safe working
environment and protection of worker’s lives and safety.
Eventually we can develop a new image of the company's
security with minimum occupational hazards.
2.Safety and health management system operational
performance:
At Nan Ya PCB, we have been successfully implementing
the health and safety management system. In 2009, we
passed the assessment conducted by “the Council of Labor
Affairs” and received the certificate as a qualified
occupational health and safety management system
